Monuments and Art > Remarkable Building

PERIOD 19th century

DESCRIPTION

The Noble Hospital owes its existence to a legacy in the will of Dr. Joseph Noble, an English doctor who practised in Malaga in 1861 and who died of Cholera. His wife and children applied their inheritance to the construction of an auxiliary hospital that would be able to attend, apart from the citizens of the Malagueta district, all sailors of any nationality that disembarked in the port of Malaga.

On 24th September 1870 the building was handed over to the Comisión Municipal de Beneficencia (Municipal Charity Commission).

The building has an extremely simple structure, based on a long nave with a central corridor from which the different facilities are accessed. The interior of the hospital is accessed from the central part of the building, through a grand framed arch topped with a stone plaque with the words "Hospital Noble" engraved on it. The lateral wings, which are identical, were used to give first aid treatment.

Currently the building is being used as municipal offices.
