Torrequebrada Watchtower
The Broken Tower (Torrequebrada) is at the top of an escarpment that rises from the road of Cadiz and is named after it was torn for years between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. This watchtower was mentioned from the very beginning by the Christians and during the sixteenth century it was repaired on several occasions. Indeed, it was repaired in 1504 by the mason Cristobal de la Parra and in 1567 by Pedro de la Chica, resident of Granada.
It has just over seven meters high, being its bottom filled with solid stone, on which there is a small room where were lit the alarm fires, rising up the smoke to the roof, which had parapet. There were two guards in this tower, paid by the city, one guard stay for monitoring and the other went every night to the Torre Bermeja for listening, returning again to the Torrequebrada on the next morning.
