A castle built by Abderramán 3rd in the mid 10th century and virtually destroyed during the Christian conquest of 1487, before subsequently being rebuilt in the 18th century to combat the smuggling that was rife in the area at this time. It now provides the venue for events such as the Festival Ciudad de Fuengirola. A stop in the area around the Castillo Sohail, with its gardens and sea views, is a must for the visitor.
