Hermitage of Our Lady of la Candelaria
Right at the top of the village is the Ermita del Santuario, which is also known as Convento de la Santîsima Virgen de la Candelaria, the patron saint of the village. It was built in the 17th century and has been remodelled several times since then.
According to tradition, it was built on high ground as a show of gratitude as the some sailors from the Canary Islands saved their lives somewhat miraculously during a violent storm that hit their ship just off the coast near to Malaga. It has only got one nave with a plain ceiling that runs into a square presbytery with a semi-circular vault. The plastered decorative motifs on the vault were done by locals trying to imitate a Mannerist style decoration. There is an image of the Candelaria, the patron saint of the village, in the chapel.
