Monuments and Art > Manor House

Located within the Conjunto Histórico de Ronda (historic quarter of Ronda) and near the neighbourhod known as Padre Jesús, this building was built at the end of the 18th century. It has an impressive Baroque-style front built with cut stones. Its door is flanked by paris of Corinthian columns which hold up an excelent example of a typical wrought iron balcony from Ronda. The front is finished off with a pediment that is decorated with naked pre-Columbian figures.

The male figures are making fun of the females and can be seen to be syticking out thier tongues at them, while the females very carefully cover their intimate parts from the males eyes. These figures support the lintel on which the coat of arms of the noble family headed by Vasco Martîn de Salvatierra is engraved. This person was the person who the Catholic Kings left Ronda in charge of when they left after the reconquest of Ronda. On the inside, the Palace stills gives witness to the austerrity common to most such houses of its day between the 17th and the 18Ith centuries.
