European crested tit

Small bird (approx 12 cm or 4.5 in) unmistakable thanks to its small crest of black and white feathers. Face with black bands and black tie that extends as a necklace. Its face plumage is light and pale, dark brown in the dorsal area and cinnamon grey in the ventral zone.
Where it lives
Forest bird that prefers pine woods although it is also present in cork, holm and Portuguese oak woods.
How it lives
Resident all year round in Malaga. It breeds at the beginning of April and makes two annual layings of 5 to 8 eggs. Nest in tree cavities. Insectivore, catching small insects in the treetops, but also consuming pine seeds and other shrubs.
Where it can be seen in Malaga
Usual bird in the forest masses of the Great Path. It can be watched, for example, in stages 5, 6, 8, 17, 20, 31 and 33.
Curious facts
European crested tits are treetop birds, which often mix in small groups with coal tits and kinglets. They create small pantries in hollows of the branches in which they store seeds and insects.
