Sierra Gorda y Sierra de San Jorge

The village of Villanueva del Trabuco lies in the extreme east of the Antequera region, at the foot of the Sierra Gorda and Sierra San Jorge, which are part of Málaga’s Arco Calizo range. The presence of these two mountain ranges provides a backdrop of breathtaking beauty for the village and the surrounding countryside.

One of the many pathways in the area leads up to the Sierra de San Jorge alongside the bed of Las Chozas stream, while at the foot of the mountains, the scenery is characterised by gentle slopes crowned with cereal crops and olive groves, with fields dotted with farmhouses and country homes visible on the plains.

The village of Villanueva del Trabuco is home to two streams which come together from the two ranges mentioned above and the Sierra de Gibalto to form the River Guadalhorce. The abundant streams at the foot of the mountains enables these streams to maintain a modest flow of water during most of the year, enabling poplars and ashes to grow on some banks which, along with the presence of the water itself, provide an ideal setting for a day out in the country.
