Very few villages are able to boast of origins that date back as far as the Neolithic Era. Prehistoric remains of the very first Neolithic village, which later on became an important population centre in the Copper and Bronze Ages, have been discovered in Ardales right next to the rocky outcrop where the Mozarabe castle and the Mudejar church cling to the rocks.
