Though little documentary references exist with regard to Cartajima’s history, the surrounding area does contain evidence of ancient settlements, such as the MEDIAEVAL CASTLE and a number of archaeological remains which are now little more than rubble.

The BATHS at La Cañada de Harife and the NECROPOLIS at El Cortijo del Ratón date back to the Roman occupation.

Other remains of interest are the MEDIAEVAL VILLAGES of Cartamón and Casapalma.
