This stage goes from the Nothern Málaga Mountains (Sierra Norte de Málaga), and all the way through Antequera, which is a crossroads between Eastern and Western Andalusia, that is to say, Andalusia with the Guadalquivir and the one that comes out to the Mediterranean. Its location has permitted the development of the land communication centre and has made transport between higher and lower Andalusia, between Granada and Seville, possible. Throughout the history, this area has provided coming and going of people and cultures. Antequera has a lot of plains and rolling fields covered in hills and mounds.

This route is 215 km long and goes through four municipalities. The route includes visits to historic sites, such as the tomb of the famous bandit Josê Marîa el Tempranillo, and breathtaking scenery like Fuente de Piedra Lagoon (Stone Fountain Lagoon) or the Torcal Mountains area. The route is divided in four parts so visitors would be able to enjoy breathtaking scenery and all the villages or small towns they go through.

First part:
Villanueva del Rosario - Alameda

Second part:
Alameda – The Tempranillo Route

Third part:
The Tempranillo Route - Fuente de Piedra Lagoon – The Torcal of Antequera

Fourth part:
The Torcal – Antequera (Dolmens) – Alameda

This project was developed in cooperation with Iberian Coast Route Ltd under the name of ‘Málaga Countryside Rider Tour’.

The beginning of the route consists of 9 stages, which go through all the towns and villages in the Province of Málaga. It is 1, 700 km long and covers more than 70 municipalities. Depending on the progress of the project, it is more than probable that there will be open another part which will go through many other municipalities. The route can be ridden in parts, each stage separately, or the entire at once for a period of 9 days. In the latter case, the way goes from the Mountains of Málaga to Málaga City. It is not necessary to visit the recommended hotels or restaurants and try their dishes if you do not wish so. You can go along the route on your own or follow the ‘guided tour’ with previous booking of hotels, restaurants or activities.
