Thanks to the popularity of El Caminito del Rey and the Great Málaga Path, inland tourism increases by 7.3% in the Province of Málaga
Round twenty promotional activities took place in natural surroundings last year
Tourist attractions such as El Caminito del Rey Path and the Great Málaga Path have greatly contributed the development of the inland tourism in the province of Málaga. According to the latest assessment from 2015, there were 906,000 tourists who visited this part of the province, which is 7.3% more than the year before.
According to the information given by Mr Elías Bendodo at the International Tourism Fair Trade FITUR in Madrid, the Costa del Sol Tourism has decided to promote creation and execution of the activities that belong to the VITA concept (Spanish abbreviation for Green, Inland, and Active Tourism) this year.This year’s investment in this project is going to be €100,000 and should cover some twenty specific events or activities, which include fairs, congresses, professional forums and marketing campaigns.
The main aim of this promotional action in 2016 are going to be the detection of inland tourism resources, and the strategic plan for the VITA Project with the intention of marketing the wide tourism supply in the province.
El Caminito del Rey was one of the most important products that were promoted by the Costa del Sol Tourism at FITUR. Before this fair was opened, it had been awarded for an emerging tourist destination.
The institution Costa del Sol Tourism is going to continue promoting other active and inland tourism attractions, such as the Great Málaga Path and the Coastal Path in the future as well.
The plan is to improve all-season tourism by boosting these spots as an important part of this area’s tourism supply. As County Council President ElíasBendodo said: ‘few destinations can offer a route which is similar to Camino de Santiago, famous pilgrimage route, a 160-long path that goes along the coast, or an incredible walk through the clouds at an altitude of more than 100m’.
Importance of Inland Tourism
In 2015, the generated economic impact of inland tourism was up to €836.07m. Whereas €540.99m come from the direct economic impact, €295.07m were produced as the effect of the inland tourism in the Province of Málaga. Last year, it generated income that equals 10,006 full-time jobs.
As for the tourism supply, there is to highlight that the inland part of the provincewas able to provide with 1,833 accommodation options with 23,852 places (6% more than in 2014), which is 13.61% of all accommodation places in the Province of Málaga.
Rural houses were eight out of ten (81.39%) establishments where you could stay, and they supplied with almost four out of ten rooms or places (39.8%). Hotels offeredone out of four rooms in the inland of Málaga.
There were 161 hotels in the inland part of Málaga with 6,265 placesin 2015, or 26.27% of available rooms.Besides, there was 15.98% increase in places available in guesthouses in the inland of this province in the analysed five-year time, between 2010 and 2015.
Moreover, there were 60 flats with 2,082 places in 2015, that is to say 5.47% more than the year before. The inland of the province also provides with 20 campsites and 4.060 places, or 17.02% of total.
