Tourists from the Basque Country show great interest for El Caminito del Rey path and the coast of the Province of Málaga
Expovacaciones Bilbao attendants who visited the stand of the Costa del Sol asked for this main active tourism attraction.
The Great Challenge 2015, stared three big world tourism events and all national tourism fairs open to public.
The Costa del Sol was presented at Expovacaciones Bilbao, a tourism exhibition which finished yesterday, with two main inducements totourists – El Caminito del Rey path and the coast of the Province of Málaga, which Basque tourists were greatly interested in.
The Costa del Sol stand, which was exhibited by the Tourism and Trade Department of the Andalusian Government, received hundreds of visitors who wanted to ask about different touristy spots of the Province of Málaga with a view to organizing future trips and summer holidays.
Therefore, President of the Costa del Sol Tourism ElíasBendodo explained that sun and beach tourism has traditionally been of the main tourist interest at the shows that happen just before summer, such as Expovacaciones. Nevertheless, at its last exhibition, there was a big interest for El Caminito del Rey besides the traditionally preferred coast, he added.
Moreover, he said that ‘not only El Caminito del Rey became a very popular destination for national tourists, but some other active tourism destinations, like the Great Málaga Path and the Coastal Path, started to have inducement effect and attract attention, above all, of those who look for different natural surroundings in addition to the beach.’

This year, the Great Challenge in 2015, which includes El Caminito del Rey, the Great Path and the Coastal Path, has gone to all national tourism fairs open to publictogether with the Costa del Sol Tourism. Some of these national fairs were B-Travel (Catalonia), Sevatur (San Sebastián) or Navartur (Navarra). Moreover, it was as well successfully presented at the three most important tourism events in the world: World Travel Market, ITB andFitur.
Among the aims of the above project at these events is to take advantage of the national tourism improvement during the three first months of the year (this is the case of the increased number of tourists and overnight stays), and to boost the inland tourism, which brings 844,000 tourists to the province and generates 831m euros a year.
