Cultural and Tourist Conference on the Path El Caminito del Rey in El Chorro, an appealing offer of leisure and nature

The First Climbing Rally organized by the Andalusian Climbing Association and Mountain Group is planned for October 18th.

Conferences, exhibitions, food tasting, round tables and excursions, form a complete program of culture and environmental leisure .

The project of rebuilding El Caminito del Rey is to be presented on Saturday.

This is the way to discover cultural and natural heritage of the Province of Málaga, and, above all, to underline the importance and wealth of some symbolic areas, such as El Caminito del Rey and El Chorro. Álora’s Town Council in colaboration with the Tourism and Territory Promotion Department of the County Council are organizing ‘Cultural and Tourist Conference. The Path El Caminito del Rey, El Chorro’, on 17th, 18th, 19th and 25th October. A varied program that includes culture and leisure time, and is open to everybody, is composed by many events: exhibitions, conferences, acknowledgment of people related to El Chorro, the 1st Climbing Rally, round table discussions, typical Perota soup from Álora for lunch, outings.

Today, County Council representative for Tourism and Territory Promotion Jacobo Florido and José Sánchez, the Mayor of Álora, have presented this conference which takes place at different locations, such as the local train station and Local People Association’s office, La Milagrosa church and the tourist spot La Garganta (The Gorge).

‘A special plan for El Caminito del Rey rebuilding is to be completed after a long-awaited restoration of the boardwalk. This 2.24 m euros worth investment will soon be performed and it will make it worth our while when we get to be able to observe it, walk or go for a stroll along it, and enjoy it in a safe way’, said the County Council representative, Jacobo Florido.

This conference is expected to give importance and commercialize tourist and cultural offer of the municipality and the area, without forgetting that this is a natural beauty spot. Therefore, both of the mentioned administration bodies try to achieve a balance between the protection of the environment and tourism.

On Friday, 17th October, a regional train is to come to El Chorro and varied exhibitions in the hall and Local People Association’s Office are going to be open. You can also hear the speech on ‘History of the Gorge El Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, El Chorro’ by Clemente González. At 7:30 p.m., there will be a presentation about people who are specially connected to this site. At 8 p.m., exhibition on the tourist complex La Garganta is to be open.

On Saturday, an interesting happening is taking place. This is the First Climbing Rally, organized by the Andalusian Climbing Association and Mountain Group Boquerón, which is going to last during the whole event, and is going to be supplemented by different round tables and speeches, besides a touristy and cultural excursion round El Chorro that is to start at 4:30 p.m. and will take one or two hours.

On Saturday, the Caminito del Rey Rebuilding Project is to be presented and visitors will be able to taste a typical soup from ‘Alora – Sopa Perota, in front of El Chorro Train Station. This event is offered by the Climbing Rally Organization.

On Sunday, 19th October, the speeches ‘History of Mountain Sports in El Chorro’ and Nature, Animal and Plant World at the Beauty Spot El Desfiladero de los Gaitanes’ are taking place.

Finally, on Saturday, 25th October, the conference on ‘European Heritage El Chorro and El Caminito del Rey’ is scheduled, and followed by varied speeches, a visit to the exhibitions, and a tour.

A bus from Álora to El Chorro will be at your service from 4:14 p.m. to 8.30 p.m; from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday; and from 11 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. on Sunday.
