El Caminito del Rey shows its logo which will bring to light its tourist attraction and historical importance

The corporate image of the project, work of the agency El Cuartel from Málaga, achieved consensus among the Town Councils of Álora, Ardales, and Antequera; Abdalajís Valley, and the County Council as well.

El Caminito del Rey got its logo with a view to its soon opening, which is to happen during the first quarter of 2015. The logo is made by the agency El Cuartel, which was awarded the project in a competition with other four local design companies. Selected image was approved by the County Council of Málaga and the Mayors of Älora, Ardales, Antequera and Abdalajís Valley.

Having seriously analyzed different options, representatives of the mentioned bodies chose the one with the most votes. In their opinion, the chosen logo offers the best illustration of the area of El Caminito del Rey, and tourist possibilities it will offer after the renovation.

This was essential in choosing the design, which was supposed to represent those municipalities that include the way – Álora and Ardales –, as well as those which are around it like Antequera and Abdalajís Valley.

The new logo was made, as EL Cuartel agency says, ‘by unifying three essential elements that form El Caminito del Rey, which is understood as a touristy place, a chapter from our history, and a brand, of course. These elements are – its recognizable landscape, the spectacular hanging footbridge, and the word ‘royal’ that symbolically forms part of the name of the place and the legend about it’.

Local Creativity

During the process of logo election, the members of the committee praised quality and variety of given proposals, creative works of local agencies. All of them showed a great sensibility towards the project and their full awareness of what the gorge – Desfiladero de los Gaitanes with El Caminito del Rey is.

In most cases, this place was an inspiration for the participants, who offered a big variety of high quality designs, as it was confirmed by the judges.

After the logo design created by El Cuartel was chosen, the organizers thanked the agencies for participating and called them to continue taking part in future projects related to the promotion of tourism and culture of the province.

El Cuartel is an important national advertising and communication agency headquartered in Málaga and Madrid. In November, it was one of the three best independent Spanish agencies at Control Awards in 2014 and the best one at Advertising Agripina Awards in Andalusia. El Cuartel belongs to the first Regional Society of Spanish Advertizing Agencies called INRED.

Works

The reconstruction of El Caminito de Rey is a traditional demand and one of the most important actions done by the County Council, which allocates 2.3m euros of the budget to the works on a beauty spot that is to be a stimulus for tourism and economy in all the municipalities in the area of the Guadalhorce and Antequera.

Moreover, the way composed of El Caminito del Rey, The Great Málaga Path, and the Coastal Path owns a promotional name The Great Challenge (El Gran Desafío) 2015, and should draw more than 2.5 m tourists.

The works on the Caminito del Rey rebuilding started on 13th March. The method which was used for this purpose was similar to the one used between 1901 and 1905 by the employees of the Hydroelectric Power Company El Chorro to build the boardwalk. Then, this was a service way which got its name after King Alfonso XIII went across it to open the Reservoir of Count of Guadalhorce in 1921.

The works are not only being performed along the 1.2 kilometres long boardwalk, but also on the whole path, which is four kilometres long. The workers have to hang of the rock so they would be able to stick wooden parts to the wall with metal pieces.
The project involves the building of control cabins, placed at the access points at the beginning and the end of the route, in order to improve control and security of the visitors.
